Luxe Redux: 5 Reasons Why We LOVE London’s Jumeirah Carlton Tower

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Carlton Tower Jumeirah during a stopover stay in London with my husband and our thirteen-year-old son. We loved it. First opened in 1961, the hotel has more than earned its long-standing reputation as a beacon of Knightsbridge hospitality, but after its £100 million renovation and reopening in 2021, the property feels ultra-luxe, revitalized, and modernized. In other words, it is a London hotel perfectly befitting its Emirati ownership.

Here are five reasons why I can’t wait to return, and why this posh London hotel should be on your radar for a romantic getaway, wedding, or city celebration.

1. EXTRAORDINARY STAFF

From the second we stepped out of the cab, we felt like the hotel’s only guests, even though its 17 stories boast nearly 200 rooms. From the bellman to the front desk staff and EVERYONE in between, this property has perfected the art of hospitality. Which brings me to point two…

2. PERSONALIZED LUXURY

London certainly is not short on luxury hotels, and I’ve stayed at many of the top properties in the city during previous visits to Britain. Yet, to me, nothing says luxury like thoughtful gestures of personalization. I knew we were in for a special stay from the second we were handed our room “keys.” When three beautifully colored leather squares slid across the counter, my eye caught a glimpse of gold foil with my initials and I was impressed before we even stepped foot into our suite. Not only was my pink leather square custom-embossed with “AD” but the other two kelly-green “keys”, were also customized with “BP” for my husband and son who share the same initials. We hadn’t even seen the room yet and we felt pampered! Once we got to the room, we also found three ADORABLE pairs of personalized slippers… a monogrammed set for each one of us! These little touches were incredibly thoughtful, but it was also the kindness of the staff (which brings me back to point one) that made our stay so memorable.

3. GORGEOUS ROOMS & AMENITIES

Our Jr Suite was decadent, with luxury amenities and a beautiful terrace. After a long overnight flight, we sincerely appreciated the pot of hot tea, fruit basket, and pastries that were waiting for us upon arrival in our room. But, I loved the DYSON hair dryer (ladies: if you know, you know) and the all-marble bathroom. Our suite also had a beautiful terrace which offered a tempting view of the Prada boutique on Sloane Street directly below. Speaking of shopping…

4. LOCATION, LOCATION

The Carlton Tower Jumeirah is located in the heart of Knightsbridge, a prestigious part of central London synonymous with luxury and exclusivity, making it a prime location for both shopping and sightseeing. Harrods is just a short walk away, so we took the opportunity to enjoy a night stroll and do some evening shopping. Harrods is my favorite department store in the world (mostly because I am obsessed with The Food Hall. I mean,  you can spend an hour in the Chocolate section alone!) We enjoyed an iced chai latte at the cafe bar after spending a full hour in the perfume hall! While at Harrods, we also took the chance to visit my dear friend Neill Strain’s flower concession stand on the lower level of the store. It was a few days before Valentine’s Day when we were there so Neill’s team was busy prepping special deliveries and we got to see hundreds of exquisite red roses in full bloom!

(Neill Strain is one of the BEST floral couturiers in the world with a client list including the whose-who of celebs and European clientele. His flagship boutique is located just a few steps away from The Carlton Tower Jumeirah and always has an Instagram-worthy floral installation outside his door!) I HIGHLY recommend you visit his gorgeous shop if you’re a floral enthusiast! Although we were short on time for this visit, the V&A is also a quick stroll from the hotel. Ultimately, the location can’t be beat.

5. OBSERVATORY VIBES & PRIVATE ACCESS FOR EVENTS

During my stay, I had the opportunity to meet with the incredible sales and events team to tour the property’s wedding and event facilities. From the perspective of an event producer and wedding perspective: what I LOVED about this hotel was -how- we arrived at the event space! To start the tour, we stepped outside the front lobby and entered a second door, just for event guests. Yes, that’s right… The Carlton Tower Jumeirah offers a private guest entrance from the front of the hotel. Imagine how fabulous it is to pull up to the front doors of a five-star hotel and enter a private world of your own (complete with a beautiful staircase reserved JUST for you and your lucky guests!) This is a wonderful private perk. From the staircase, we arrived at the event space itself. The pristine cream-colored foyer with beautiful paneled walls reflects the total renovation this property underwent in 2021. To the right of the foyer is the ballroom (big enough for a sit-down event for 200), complete with sparkling crystal chandeliers. Here too, the pristine cream-colored walls with their classic molding present a beautiful blank canvas for an event. Yet, it was the room across the hall that captivated my imagination. Overlooking London’s famed Cadogan Gardens, the conservatory-esque Birch Room event space offers a great view and would be a wonderful option for an intimate dinner reception for about fifty guests. (PRO TIP for WedLuxe readers: for extremely special events, ask about the ultra-posh “The Peak” Members Club on the 9th floor. By day, this is an ultra-posh private member’s area but can be reserved for special dinners upon select request.)  I didn’t get a chance to indulge at The Peak Fitness Club and Spa, but I did ‘peek’ in and saw the 20m heated swimming pool with its glass-domed roof and wished I could dive in! We enjoyed breakfast at Al Mare, an Italian restaurant overseen by head chef Marco Calenzo; and tea at The Chinoiserie, an all-day dining restaurant.
