Creative Director and Photographer Ara Coutts describes this fashion editorial shoot as a tribute to talented Canadian designers and brides who have had to postpone weddings due to the pandemic. “The editorial is named lavender dreams based on the many legends associated with lavender and love,” says Coutts. “According to Ancient Egyptian folklore, it is said Cleopatra used lavender to seduce both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.” Using locally-sourced lavender from Ontario farms, the results are gorgeous.

We specifically selected contemporary silhouettes to contrast the dreamlike state of romance and whimsy. To achieve these looks we sourced garments from Canadian fashion-forward wedding designers such as Brosche Bridal, Lesley Hampton, Serge Jevagine, and Israella Kobla.  Our vision was to show a beautiful bride sinking in a field of lavenders. The editorial is named lavender dreams based on the many legends associated with lavender and love. According to Ancient Egyptian folklore, it is said Cleopatra used lavender to seduce both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. In European mythology, alpine girls would put lavender in tea to help bring visions of their ‘true love’, and place lavender under a lover’s pillow to foster romantic dreams. Today lavender can be found in our daily beauty routines. We wanted to showcase not only the beautiful field flower (within the props and set décor), but also convey the euphoric feelings of happiness, luxury, and love, in our images. We added a hefty dose of field flowers and lavender sourced from Ontario farms.
