, they stood in its candlelit halls as friends, listening to an orchestra and joking that the setting was a little too romantic for “a couple of besties.” Neither of them believed it at the time. Both of them were wrong.
The two met at work, where Stephen started just a week after Samantha did. What began as friendly carpooling turned into something else during a golden hour drive, when a song came on the shared playlist and neither of them said a word, they just let it play. That silence was the tell. Years later, “Be Your Everything” by Boys Like Girls became their first dance song.
Samantha & Stephen’s wedding is featured in the new issue of WedLuxe Magazine. You can order the print edition here or the digital edition here.
Stephen’s proposal had been building for months, disguised as a running joke. He’d taken to dropping to one knee at random moments to “tie his shoe,” a bit Samantha caught onto early but let him keep performing. He finally gave it a real ending on a night that started with all her favourite snacks and ended in one of their go-to parks at sunset, where he knelt down one last time, this time for good.
That early memory at Casa Loma never left them, and when it came time to choose a venue, it wasn’t really a choice at all, it was a return. The couple built their “royal fairytale” theme around the castle itself, leaning into its storybook architecture rather than competing with it, and grounded the day in a soft, blush-toned palette meant to feel timeless rather than trendy. It set the stage for a day that, fittingly, would have its own quietly cinematic twist: rain clearing at the last possible moment, just in time for two people who’d once laughed off their own love story to have it come true after all.
The reception carried the “royal fairytale” concept through to the smallest details, with a custom seating chart and tabletop styling reinforcing the soft, romantic palette established outdoors. Guests went home with engraved glass favours, personalized with custom tags, a detail that tied the keepsake back to the evening’s tone rather than treating it as an afterthought.
The evening’s biggest surprise came from the couple themselves. Rather than bringing in a wedding band, Samantha and Stephen closed out the reception with an unannounced live performance, Stephen on guitar, Samantha singing, turning what could have been a scripted moment into something unmistakably personal. Guests who had spent the day watching the couple’s history with each other unfold through their vows got one more glimpse of it on the dance floor.
