An Old Hollywood-Inspired Wedding

Some love stories begin at first glance. Jessica Ratynski and Matthew Martino’s began over email.

As the daughter behind Markham Flooring, Jessica had spent years exchanging messages and phone calls with Matthew, then a construction manager at Mattamy Homes, coordinating hardwood installation schedules for new builds across the GTA. The professional rapport was easy, seamless and then one day, instead of asking for installation dates, he asked her to dinner. They met at a small bar called Hole in the Wall in the Junction, and as Jessica puts it, the rest is history.

After nearly four years together, Matthew made it official in the most cinematic way possible. In Positano, on the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, he orchestrated an all-white gala dinner as a ruse, and as Jessica arrived to find roses, candles, and a violinist set against the shimmering water below, he got down on one knee. “It was the easiest yes.”

The couple were married on September 12, 2025. From the moment guests arrived at The Arlington Estate, where both the ceremony and reception were held, the vision was clear: old Hollywood and grand in every sense. Formal, timeless, and unapologetically grand – crisp black and white ran through every detail, from the florals to the fashion, creating a cohesive world that felt lifted from another era.

Their wedding is featured in the current issue of WedLuxe Magazine, Issue 36.

What They Wore

Jessica wore a single gown, by choice. The Gwinn by Justin Alexander, a strapless charmeuse fit and-flare with a scooped neck purchased from Jessica Jordan Bridal, embodied exactly the classic restraint she was after. She paired it with a cathedral-length Pollardi veil and blusher. Matthew wore a custom bespoke white tuxedo jacket with a shiny white lapel – crisp, elegant, and perfectly matched to the moment.

An Old Hollywood-Inspired Ceremony

The Arlington Estate hosted both the ceremony and reception. Outdoors, a white aisle ran between low floral borders toward a flower-covered structure framed by mature greenery. The couple described their direction as formal, timeless, classic, and grand, with an Old Hollywood influence expressed through contrast and scale.

Pretty Plans Coordination provided month-of planning and day-of coordination. The aerial view of the garden reveals the full ceremony plan, while closer photographs preserve Matthew waiting at the altar, Jessica’s processional, and their expressions during the vows. The recessional shifted the mood immediately as the couple dipped for a kiss and walked out with their arms raised while guests applauded.

A Dream Realized in White Florals and Personal Details

Florals were the heart of Jessica’s vision from the very beginning – she had known for years exactly who she wanted to bring them to life. Lush, abundant arrangements by Royal Orchid Florist Royal Orchid Florist is a full-service floral design studio based in Toronto. With decades in... More | Message transformed The Arlington Estate from top to bottom, following the wedding’s crisp black and white palette with precision and grandeur. From small trees to large trees, sweepin g grand runners along the tables, the floral production was all-encompassing – layered, lush, and entirely intentional.

Sweet Sentiments

In place of traditional favors, Jessica and Matthew had written 175 personalized notes, one for each guest, printed on beautiful handmade paper, each one reflecting a shared memory, an inside joke, or a meaningful acknowledgment unique to that person alone. No two were the same. “We did not want a guest to turn to the person beside them and see it’s the same thank you note,” shares Jessica. “It took a long time, but it was so worth it.”

Jazz, Fireworks, and a Late-Night Celebration

The soundtrack changed as the evening progressed. Live jazz accompanied cocktail hour, Sinatra and Nat King Cole classics played over dinner, and 1970s and 1980s disco shaped dessert and dancing. A live cigar roller added old-world character, while speeches were kept short and the black-and-white reception room remained the visual anchor.

The night closed with fireworks lighting the sky, but the party continued until guests had to be gently encouraged to leave at nearly 2 a.m. Jessica’s favourite memory was marrying her best friend and seeing their guests enjoy the celebration so fully. The final photographs move from cake cutting to a kiss beneath the fireworks.

Jessica, a business owner working with Markham Flooring, and Matthew, a construction manager, followed the wedding with ten days at Sandals Royal Barbados. They stayed in an oceanfront honeymoon suite with butler service and chose the beach-focused trip as a quiet counterpoint to the scale of the celebration they had planned.
