A Magical Storybook Greenhouse Wedding

Wai Yee and Shinwoo (featured in Issue 35 of WedLuxe Magazine, Canada) first met at a mutual friend’s birthday celebration in New York City in May 2021, an encounter that quickly grew into a meaningful connection. After two years together, Shinwoo proposed on April 9, 2023, during a photoshoot in Central Park—the same place the couple shared their first date—turning a familiar setting into a deeply personal milestone.

The couple were married on September 6, 2025, at Madison Greenhouse,  in Newmarket, Ontario, just north of Toronto, where their vision for an ethereal, magical celebration rooted in nature came to life. Planned by Karin Wu & Co., with floral and décor design by Infinitude Design, the wedding was conceived as a whimsical storybook experience that blended seamlessly with the greenhouse’s lush surroundings.

Cultural and interactive elements were thoughtfully woven throughout the day, beginning with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. The couple extended their appreciation to their wedding party through meaningful gifting, including custom Qipao for each bridesmaid, Teuta Matoshi dresses, and bespoke suits from Suit Supply for the groomsmen. Fashion played a central role in the storytelling, with Wai Yee changing through five distinct looks—starting with a simple pink Qipao for the tea ceremony to an ethereal ivory wedding gown by Papilio, paired with statement diamond jewelry by New York high jewelry designer Joanna Mei. Shinwoo complemented the vision in both a traditional Chinese Tang suit and a fully custom forest-green three-piece suit by Empire Customs, featuring personalized interior detailing inspired by florals and Korea’s national animal, the tiger.

We both wanted an ethereal, magical, whimsical, and nature themed wedding. We also wanted to have lots of florals, to match and accentuate the greenhouse environment

- Wai Yee, Bride

MAGICAL MOMENTS
During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed a wandering magician and a live sushi bar, while ethereal music from a string quartet and harpist set the tone. Personal details were woven throughout, from Polaroid table numbers featuring their fur baby, Sunny, to handcrafted honey jars paired with specialty teas imported from Shanghai and South Korea.

STORYBOOK SETTING
The greenhouse was transformed into a romantic storybook setting by Infinitude with a fairytale floral palette of blush, blue, purple, and greenery, which gave a spectrum that was both dreamy and dimensional. The whimsical seating chart featured each guest’s name and table number displayed on a delicate butterfly, creating the illusion that the greenhouse had been touched by a flutter of wings.

BOTANICAL RHYTHM
Instead of repeating the same centerpiece design across every table, three different styles kept the eye moving and the room dynamic. Some tables featured graceful olive trees, long tables had lush floral runners cascading off the edges, while other tables had lush garden-style floral arrangements. The mix felt organic to the greenhouse and kept the atmosphere fresh, layered, and engaging.

CULTURE & COUTURE

Cultural traditions were woven into the celebration through a Korean Paebaek ceremony and Chinese lion dancers, mirrored by fashion changes throughout the evening. Wai Yee wore a traditional Korean hanbok by Maxine Hanbok, followed by a modern Chinese cheongsam from Peache Bridal Atelier in Hong Kong for the lion dance, later changing into a white mini dress by Etsy seller SuPrettyBride. For the Paebaek ceremony, Shinwoo wore a traditional Korean hanbok, later changing into a tang suit by Beth & Brian. As night fell, twinkle lights throughout the greenhouse cast a warm, glowing ambiance over the celebration.
