Jessica and Matthew’s story (featured in Issue 35 of WedLuxe Magazine Canada), began with a swipe in 2016 that turned into something real very quickly. They met on a dating app and bonded over music, shared values, and aligned long term goals, soon becoming inseparable. After six years together, it felt natural that the next chapter would begin somewhere that already felt like home. The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas had become their favourite escape and a true family tradition, a place they visited once or twice a year with both sides of the family and lovingly called their “second home,” so it was the only place Matthew could imagine proposing.
During a Civic long weekend that coincided with Matthew’s birthday, Jessica thought they were dressing up for a beachfront dinner with his dad, his sister, and her mom, perfectly in keeping with their usual family trips. A supposed mix up with the reservation sent Matthew and his dad ahead to fix things, while Jessica walked down with his sister and her mom. Instead of a hostess stand, she arrived to find her soon to be fiancé waiting on the sand, surrounded by glowing candles, dozens of roses set into the beach, and a chilled bottle of champagne, ready to ask her to marry him with the ocean behind them.
Jessica and Matthew were married at St. Clare of Assisi in Woodbridge, Ontario on May 31, 2025. Vanessa Victoria Weddings & Events planned the wedding from start to finish, coordinating every last detail.
INDOOR-OUTDOOR
At the reception, Jessica and Matthew’s indoor–outdoor modern garden party vision unfolded in luminous detail at The Arlington Estate in Woodbridge with floral design by Simply Elegant By Emma. The palette stayed intentionally restrained in layers of white and ivory, allowing texture, form, and light to take the lead. Crystal chandeliers and candlelit tables created a soft, romantic glow, while dramatic suspended clouds of plumosa fern and hydrangea floated above the room. A 12-foot-wide floral ring over the dance floor and a 20-foot truss above the head table framed the celebration from every angle, with a glossy white vinyl dance floor anchoring the layout. The overall effect was symmetrical, streamlined, and luxurious, with every sightline designed to feel clean, cohesive, and photo ready.
VIBRANT NIGHT
Cocktail hour opened with a roaming saxophonist moving between the lobby and reception space, setting an upbeat, celebratory mood before guests found their seats.
Each place setting featured a silver-wrapped chocolate favour topped with a mirrored plexiglass tile engraved with the couple’s monogram on the charger. After dessert, a live sketch artist began illustrating guests so they could leave with a personalized keepsake. Right after the wedding, the couple snuck away for a five-day mini-moon in St. Maarten and St. Barths before diving back into their busy construction careers for the summer. Their “real” honeymoon followed in late November 2025, when they traded job sites for a three-week adventure through Thailand and Dubai.
