Brooke and Alec Rakis (featured in Issue 35 of WedLuxe Magazine), met on a night out with mutual friends, music humming in the background. Once they were introduced, conversation came easily and the rest of the room faded away. Two days later they were on their first date, and from then on they were rarely apart. Being together felt steady and familiar, as if they had simply stepped into a life that already made sense. Five years later, that feeling followed them to Santorini. At NAOS, a restaurant perched above the Aegean Sea, Alec proposed on a night lit by a full moon reflecting off the water. Brooke was completely surprised and so happy in the moment. It was emotional and intimate, a quietly cinematic scene that felt exactly like them and set the tone for everything that would follow.
With Brooke’s family based in Ontario and Alec’s in Vancouver, a destination wedding felt like the most natural way to bring everyone together. Cabo offered the perfect meeting point: sunshine, sea air, and an outdoor setting where they could lean into the under-the-stars atmosphere they had imagined from the beginning. They wanted romance that felt modern and unfussy, with neutral florals, soft light, and long dinner tables framed by a view. Baja Luna, a one-of-a-kind event venue in San José del Cabo, Mexico, delivered that balance of architecture and landscape, giving them a backdrop that felt both scenic and quietly refined.

, led by planner Tiffany Turner, became the bridge between the vision and the logistics, even helping them plan a welcome yacht party with Pelican Cabo so guests could connect, unwind, and ease into the weekend together out on the water. “On the day of the wedding, she was by our side, making sure everything flowed seamlessly so we could be fully present and enjoy every moment,” shares Brooke.
The couple were married on April 18, 2025. As guests arrived at the Baja Luna Chapel, the scene felt less like a traditional aisle and more like a site-specific art installation: sweeping white arches, clean lines, and a pair of cloud-like hydrangea structures framing the altar.
WEDDING STYLE
For the ceremony, Brooke wore a sleek Vera Wang gown. She paired it with Christian Louboutin wedding shoes customized with their wedding date delicately embroidered on the strap, a small detail that felt quietly special and personal. Alec’s bespoke Tom Ford suit was created specifically with Cabo’s warm weather in mind, styled with polished Gucci tuxedo shoes for a clean, classic finish.
UNDER THE BAJA SKY
After the ceremony, guests moved into Baja Luna’s Diamond Garden where cocktails and the reception unfolded as one continuous, design-led experience. The seating chart became its own sculptural moment: oversized panels reading “We Saved You A Seat” created a graphic focal point as guests found their names, setting a playful yet polished tone for the evening. As string lights and a canopy of fairy lights came to life overhead, the garden shifted into a glowing under-the-stars scene. Dinner was staged under the open sky with a mix of long and round tables that balanced symmetry and intimacy. Neutral-toned, textural florals wrapped the tabletops, paired with contemporary place settings that echoed the chapel’s clean lines. The floral arches that framed Brooke and Alec’s vows were repurposed behind their sweetheart table, giving the night a subtle sense of continuity.
EVENING GLOW
Things shifted into pure fun with late-night snacks and a playful ice cream bar that kept everyone refuelled between songs. A saxophonist with a glowing LED sax took over the dance floor energy, weaving through guests and amplifying the party in a way that felt unexpected and completely unforgettable. After the first dance, Brooke changed into a bridal dress from House of CB—originally the dress she wore for their civil wedding in Vancouver, later tailored and shortened for Cabo.
Today, Brooke continues her work as a personal trainer and Pilates instructor, while Alec divides his time between restaurant ownership and development, bringing the same sense of intention to their careers that they brought to their wedding. After Cabo, they eased into married life with a wellness-focused honeymoon at Palmaïa – The House of AïA, trading dance floors for daily yoga, plant-based cuisine, and spa rituals.
