Located just a 15-minute drive from Marrakech airport, La Sultana Marrakech offers an exclusive yet authentic Moroccan experience, perfect for couples and honeymooners. I visited in February 2024, and I’ve been dreaming of returning ever since! In 2001, La Sultana breathed new life into a legendary piece of history. Nestled near the Royal Palace in the UNESCO-listed Kasbah neighborhood, this extraordinary destination combines ten centuries of heritage from the Almohad, Saadian, and Alaouite dynasties.

Upon arriving on a vibrant street next to the historic Saadian Tombs, our driver sought out the conciergerie ‘red cloaks.’ These iconic ambassadors of La Sultana were our first touchpoint, immediately setting the tone for impeccable service. They loaded our luggage onto a trolley and escorted us up a discreet side alley into the hotel’s main lobby. Check-in included the customary mint tea ritual, enjoyed in the tranquility of the stunning rooftop oasis with views over the city. Guests staying in suites are also given a mobile phone to connect with an assigned butler, ready to assist with anything throughout their stay.

Unparalleled Accommodations and Privacy

La Sultana Marrakech offers a boutique experience with 28 individually designed rooms and suites spread across five adjoining riads, each with its own character and private courtyard. This setup ensures you rarely encounter other guests, making it feel like you’re staying in an exclusive community, all connected by a central courtyard where the main restaurant and heated swimming pool are located.

WedLuxe Tip: Book a suite in the Bahia Riad for the most STUNNING white marble courtyard complete with a jacuzzi. For Instagrammers, this is a MUST. Honeymooners, if you want to go all out, book the ‘Lion’s Apartment.’ At 1,000 sq ft, it offers a separate living space with a fireplace, desk, two bathrooms (one with a shower for Mr. and Mrs.), a jacuzzi bath, and a private terrace.

Culinary Excellence

While Marrakech is a foodie destination, La Sultana holds its own with two incredible restaurants: La Table De La Sultana and La Table Du Souk. Don’t miss Odette Rooftop Bar & Mezze, one of our favorite spots of the trip! Aspiring chefs can enjoy an alfresco kitchen for cooking classes held daily (choose between bread-making, sweet treats, or fresh market produce, with a market visit included!). During our stay, we enjoyed dinner at La Table de La Sultana, the poolside patio garden restaurant serving French and Moroccan cuisine. It’s the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner, with live music, candlelight, and the rooftop bar just an elevator ride away to end your night!

As part of La Sultana’s philosophy of “Terroir Cuisine,” they showcase the best ingredients Morocco produces, with “100% Botanical” options and local & ethically-sourced meat & fish. They source from a network of small local producers to follow harvest times and incorporate fresh vegetables purchased locally or handpicked from La Sultana Oualidia’s own organic garden.

WedLuxe Tip: Book into La Table de La Sultana for a romantic or special occasion dinner, or Odette Rooftop Bar & Mezze for a more casual, relaxed setting.

Spa and Wellness

La Sultana’s award-winning spa is a hidden gem! Located in the heart of the property, it offers sumptuous marble treatment rooms set around a sunken turquoise pool. A trip to Morocco is not complete without traditional Hammam treatments, and La Sultana offers a Royal Hammam using black soap made from pressed olives and decadent massages using locally sourced essential oils. They also have a beauty center and hairdresser on site, ideal for a quick fix before a night out! For exercise enthusiasts, a fitness room with cardio training is located upstairs with views of the Atlas Mountains. Yoga sessions are available on the rooftop (either as part of a group offered by the hotel or booked as a private session).

WedLuxe Tip: Booking your spa treatments ahead of your stay is a must, as the spa is extremely exclusive and only accommodates a limited number of guests at a time.

Activities and Excursions

Staying in the heart of the UNESCO listed Médina of Marrakech, means there is no shortage of things to do and see! From the historic Saadian Tombs (literally next door) to the world-famous Djemma El Fan square and souks, just a ten minute walk away – you will be immersed in local culture, history, and SHOPS! In addition La Sultana has curated a variety of exclusive, foodie, and/or immersive experiences and excursions to enable their guests to discover the city in a unique way. We’ve selected a few of our favourites below.

WedLuxe Picks:

Marrakech is a feast for the senses with its aromatic and colorful Médina. Skip the usual tourist spots and immerse yourself in the culture through its food, people, and the stories behind every delicious bite.

Switch gears and explore the chic, modern side of Marrakech in the French ‘Guéliz’ district. Visit the iconic Majorelle Garden, Musée Pierre Bergé des Arts Berbères, and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum for a dose of art and fashion. The Majorelle Garden, with its famous blue walls and lush greenery, was brought to life by French painter Jacques Majorelle in 1922 and later revived by Yves Saint Laurent. The YSL Museum showcases his legendary designs and the magic he created in Marrakech.

Musical Private Dinner

Enjoy an exclusive evening on a private rooftop at the riad Saadia, with stunning views of Historical Monuments and King Mohamed VI’s Royal Palace. Dine under the stars with a gourmet meal from La Table de La Sultana, accompanied by the best of Moroccan folklore and musical artists.
