At a venue one evening in November 2016, Marco’s group of friends sat at a table next to Maria’s, and her friend noticed that he kept glancing over. Maria recognized him at a club later that night and decided to introduce herself. Marco’s first words to her were, “I have a sister named Maria.” The two laughed, exchanged phone numbers, and two weeks later, they went on their first date. “From then on, our love for each other grew quickly,” shares Maria.
The topic of engagement was brought up (by coincidence) when the pair first met. That evening, Maria shared with Marco that her dream would be to get engaged in Santorini, Greece. “I guess we knew it was meant to be,” says Maria. Three years later, the couple took a memorable trip to the island. On August 2, 2019, they were enjoying a romantic evening soaking up one of Santorini’s famous sunsets when Maria noticed Marco acting unusually. He then asked to walk her to a specific location by the Grace Hotel where they were staying (and where the sunset was even more beautiful!), and when they arrived, he got down on one knee and proposed!
The couple was married in Vancouver, BC. Countdown Events provided full-service event planning and design assistance.
The ceremony took place at the Canadian Memorial United Church. Maria remembers the ceremony as a beautiful moment. “The officiant spoke so well and made us laugh,” she shares.
It had been a dream of Maria’s to wear a gown by the Australian design house Pallas Couture. Alongside her mother and sister, she traveled to New York to attend the designer’s trunk show in search of the perfect gown and found it. On the wedding day, she wore her dream dress with diamond accessories gifted to her by Marco. Her bracelet was gifted to her the morning of the wedding day.
As a new mom, Maria’s biggest priority was making sure that the wedding day would run without any hiccups — an accomplishment she credits to her wedding planners at Countdown Events. “I felt a weight lifted off of my shoulders the day of. My wedding day ran so smoothly!” she shares.
The reception took place at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The Pacific Ballroom absolutely sparkled with a white and gold design that incorporated dreamy florals and hundreds of candles.
