With the encouragement of a friend, Latoya Reeves first introduced herself to Mario Grant on a GO Transit bus at Yorkdale Station in Toronto eighteen years ago. The couple dated for eleven years before Mario proposed!
“Our engagement was a complete surprise,” shares Latoya. Latoya was celebrating her birthday, and with limited options due to the pandemic, she booked a photo shoot ending at the heart sculpture in Toronto’s Distillery District. Mario had contacted the photographer to arrange a surprise proposal video shoot beforehand, and at the end of the photo shoot, the photographer asked Latoya to turn around where she found Mario ready to propose.
Latoya and Mario were married on August 7, 2022, at THE ARLINGTON ESTATE in Toronto, Canada. Treasa Leigh Brown of LEIGH EVENT GROUP INC. provided event planning and design for the whimsical, boho chic-themed wedding that’s since been dubbed, “The Grants’ Met.”
The cocktail hour and reception took place at THE ARLINGTON ESTATE. While the guests enjoyed the prosecco bar and pineapple and peach-infused spritzer custom cocktails, the couple did a photo session outside. “As we entered our cocktail hour, our guests greeted us with love, it was beautiful to have a few moments to interact with our guests prior to our room reveal,” remembers Latoya.
LEIGH EVENT GROUP INC. exceeded the couple’s expectations with the design execution of the wedding reception. “The design of our wedding reception was chic, and unlike anything we have seen,” shares Latoya. “When we first saw the reception space there was an overwhelming joy.”
For the ceremony and first part of the evening reception, Latoya wore a customized version of the Gale gown by GALIA LAHAV, with a high side slit and skin-toned paneling on the bodice. The gown was purchased from

For her reception dress, Latoya flew to Dallas, Texas, a total of three times to visit designer ESÉ AZÉNABOR’s atelier — the final flight being canceled by the airline and rescheduled for the week of the wedding! At last, she received the gown in time to be worn on the big day. She changed into the design after the first dance. The gown featured a corset bodice reminiscent of her ceremony gown and intricate beading and lacework.
