Hot off the heels of NYBFW, we love how bridal gown designers have embraced all of the above AND are also introducing the hottest hues of the season (blue, pink, and lavender!) into their Spring 24 Bridal Collections. Based on all the statement-making moments, our editor-in-chief, Angela Desveaux, shares her May 2023 Wedding Trend Forecast below.
From Riri to Bad Bunny, the number one fashion detail from the 2023 Met Gala was the proliferation of ROSETTES on trains, busts, skirts, and sleeves! If you want to channel these little floral poufs of prettiness with your wedding gown, you can do that pretty easily. Our top ROSETTE looks from NYBFW Spring 24 collections were from Nicole + Felicia Couture and Nardos Design.
When it comes to your wedding, you want ALL the frills! This season you get your wish in more ways than one. EVERY designer is showing frills and ruffles in their collections, and this trend is also bouncing its way into footwear (*we see you Mach & Mach), accessories, and home decor textiles. From a wedding gown perspective, we particularly love the frilly fabulousness seen in the Spring 24 collections from Rivini, J’Aton Couture, and Elie Saab.
I think we can all agree that Gisele was feeling her VERY best self when she did her 2023 Met Gala twirl dressed in head-to-toe vintage Chanel feathery goodness. (Tom, who?) The plume trend is DEFINITELY hot right now with some of our feathery favs from the 2024 Spring Bridal collections, including Nicole & Felicia Couture’s doppelganger for Gisele’s vintage Chanel, not one but two wispy variations from Ines Di Santo, and a feather-festooned cape from Sareh Nouri.
When Kim Kardashian steps out in head-to-toe pearls, it says the iridescent treasures are “having a moment.” Effortlessly chic and eternally coveted, pearls have always been the epitome of bridal (and fashion!) chicness, adorning wrists, ears, and even bridal bouquets with an avant-garde flair. We love how several Fall 23 and Spring 24 Bridal Collections were WAY AHEAD of Kim, embracing their timeless appeal for the upcoming season. Case in point: our pearly favs from J’Aton Couture, Stephane Rolland, and Allure by Lee Petra Grebenau.
With its audacious presence, exaggerated proportions, and fearless allure, the unapologetically chic statement bow is tied to EVERYTHING this season! We LOVE how nearly ALL bridal gown designers are embracing the art of the statement bow for Spring 2024! A few of our favs include the ENTIRE collection from Alexia Maria (who has a statement bow on EVERY one of her gowns for Spring 2024), Zuhair Murad’s sweetly-tied waist detail, the cascading BLUE bow from Sareh Nouri, and Esé Azénabor’s elegantly bow-tied bridal pantsuit.
The hourglass silhouette reigns supreme with the 50s-inspired corset trend. The corset, an architectural marvel of fashion engineering, celebrates the beauty of the female form in all its splendor with structured boning combining support and sensuality. Corsets were a part of every single wedding gown designer’s collections for Spring 2024, but we’re particularly sweet on corseted designs from Milla Nova’s Milla by Lorenzo Rossi collection, along with gowns from Vivien Westwood, Nicole & Felicia, and Rivini.
Step into a world of whimsical elegance with sheer lace, our current obsession. For the 2024 Spring Collections, EVERY designer had some sheer lace in their designs. Still, we especially loved how gown brands Dana Harel and Milla Nova showcased breathtaking examples of this ethereal fabric.
We’re channeling Taylor Swift singing, “I just wanna stay in that lavender haze.” This season, we are seeing this gorgeous sister hue of purple emerging in MANY couture collections AND bridal. Its delicate yet vibrant nature evokes a sense of romance and sophistication, making it an ideal palette for celebrating love. Its origin can be traced back to the early 19th century when the dye “mauveine” (later known as mauve) was discovered by chemist Sir William Henry Perkin in 1856. Mauve, a shade resembling lavender, quickly gained popularity and became a fashionable color during the Victorian era. Esteemed designers Ines Di Santo, Anne Barge, and Reem Acra have all embraced lavender in their Spring 2024 Bridal Collections, unveiling ethereal gowns that embody the essence of modern elegance.
Along with sky blue and lavender (aka “mauve”), we’re seeing blush-hued wedding gowns make their beautiful way into the Spring 2024 Bridal collections. Our top selects are from Ines Di Santo, whose frilly pink Princess-style wedding gown is a vibe of its own. Reem Acra’s deep-pink, sash-tied gown is saying QUEEN for a day; Kelly Faetanini’s pink ombré’d STUNNER (combined with rosettes and a corseted bodice is checking ALL the trend boxes!), while Monique Lhuillier’s couture pink caped gown is also reminding us how much we love the brand influence of Love Shack Fancy, but more on that later!
Incorporating something blue into your wedding wardrobe has never been so easy. Rooted in an old English rhyme that advises brides to wear “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” this age-old tradition symbolizes purity, love, and fidelity. We love the blue hues in gowns from the Spring 2024 collections of Sareh Nouri, Claire Pettibone, and Ines Di Santo.
Long Live The King! And long live the fashion trends that ALWAYS permeate pop culture right after a big royal moment. The truth is we started to see King & Queen-style capes emerge in a big way in 2022 and 2023, and as we head into 2024, capes and regalia are still going strong! From a King’s perspective, we are OBSESSED with the new menswear collection from Elie Saab (the collection debuted last summer as part of autumn/winter haute couture 2023 in Paris.) Zuhair Murad’s caped gown from Fall 2023 bridal is also fit for a Queen (like most of his dresses are.) We’re also obsessed with the ENTIRE Kim Cassas Spring 2024 collection and campaign imagery, aptly called (and styled!) “Crown Jewels.”
It’s time to shine with SILVER: THE metallic of the moment! The glint of its sparkly sheen is EVERYWHERE right now, from nearly every single couture collection and now into bridal fashion! Also, the value of silver itself is skyrocketing and is currently at a nine-year high! We predict we’ll see more silver accents in wedding decor in the next few months… and we LOVE the sparkle factor. For silver wedding fashion, we love Oscar De La Renta’s party dresses (perfect for engagement parties!) and silver-threaded stunners from Muse by Berta and Milla Nova.
You’ll love this new fashion trend if you’re a fan of Cordelia de Castellane and what she’s doing now with her exquisite designs for Dior Home. In other words, the LATTICE effect is having a design moment! We are seeing this garden-inspired criss-cross shape pop up in a few places in bridal right now, specifically in collections from Liz Martinez, J’Aton Couture, and Anne Barge, and we expect to see more of it in weddings, design, and home decor as the year unfolds.
Wedding gowns have always featured beautiful floral detailing but this season takes it up a notch as technology and innovation merge with textile designs. From micro-flowers to oversized blooms and every style of petal and leaf in between, there is so much beautiful garden-inspired detailing on the Spring 2024 gown collections that we had a tough time picking our favs. Milla Nova, Dana Harel, Liz Martinez, and Mira Zwillinger all had some of the most beautiful and unique examples of this trend.
