Amanda Leela & Devin Healy first met as two teen golfers trying to make some drives and putts at a golf academy. They admired each other from afar, but the romantic timing wasn’t right. A decade later, they sparked a conversation during a TIFF event hosted by Devin’s brother. When Devin mentioned his passion for food, it was game over for Amanda. They dated long-distance for the first year and a half of their relationship before career moves allowed their relationship to grow.

In 2017, Amanda was managing her ulcerative colitis (which she was diagnosed with as a teenager) and simultaneously battling severe Lyme disease that had impacted her ability to walk. At the same time, Devin was looking for a new place to live. Amanda’s family, The Leelas, opened their home to Devin, and his one- year stay became four! “This is where ‘Leels & Heals’ blossomed our unique love,” notes Amanda, referencing the couple’s fun nickname.

In January 2020, Devin proposed at Toronto’s CASA LOMA Casa Loma, a cherished historical landmark and one of North America’s only castles, offers an... More | Message , a location that has held special significance for Amanda since she was a teenager.

“I underwent three life-saving surgeries at seventeen years old and never thought I would make it to see my wedding day. I had always dreamed that I would either get married or have something related to my marriage in this magical place,” she explains. With this in mind, Devin orchestrated a surprise proposal to coincide with a fashion event hosted there by Amanda’s best friend. That day, Amanda had modeled for the event when her friend invited her to a wine tasting at the in-house restaurant BLUEBLOOD STEAKHOUSE. “She listed all my favourite wines, and I was sold,” explains Amanda. When they entered the wine cellar, Amanda first spotted a blonde ponytail belonging to Devin’s sister (a photographer), then Devin himself. She was speechless as he got down on one knee to ask her to marry him — so silent that he had to repeat himself before Amanda answered, “A MILLION TIMES, YES!”

Amanda had worn a custom racerback dress that fit her ostomy bag to her twelfth-grade prom. So when she found a GALIA LAHAV wedding dress in a similar style, she knew it was meant to be! The team at WHITE TORONTO White offers an unparalleled experience for brides seeking their perfect wedding dress in Toronto and... More | Message , where she purchased the blush mermaid-style gown, added a custom veil and matching sleeves for an “Amanda” flair.

Devin wore a bespoke three-piece purple suit by JOHN FERRIGAMO CUSTOM DESIGNS paired with black velvet CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN shoes.

The colour palette was thoughtfully chosen to represent Amanda’s journey with her health and incorporated her favourite colour, purple.

Everything became real for Amanda when the wedding band began singing Vance Joy’s “Fire and the Flood.” Lined up behind a curtain before the wedding ceremony, Devin shot Amanda a huge smile before walking down the aisle, and she blew him a kiss in return.

The adults-only affair made an exception for Amanda’s young nephews, Charles and Theodore. Charles made his way down the aisle in a wagon pulled by Amanda’s sister-in-law Alisha, alongside Amanda’s brother Alan who walked their dog, Hugo. Theodore walked down the aisle with his parents, Danielle and Curtis, holding his ring-bearer pillow.

After exchanging personalized vows, the couple closed the ceremony with a kiss and a confetti toss beneath the trees, stopping for a kiss and a dip halfway down the aisle.

Along with passed appetizers, the food stations included dumplings and sushi (a nod to meals the couple would “order in” on Friday nights during Covid lockdowns). Signature cocktails included a TequiLeela Cosmo and a Devspresso Martini — wordplays on the couple’s names and favourite cocktails.

An interactive “Take a Shot, Take a Seat” tequila shot wall (inspired by Amanda’s bachelorette in Cabo) also doubled as a seating chart.

At the reception room reveal, the bride was left speechless (and in tears!). “The vision I had was blown out of the water,” says Amanda, referencing the reception’s design, including the two-tiered floral canopy with crystal chandeliers dangled overhead with floral garlands.

The wedding cake had a Parisian flair as a nod to Amanda’s French heritage.

Amanda’s background is Ismaili and French, and Devin’s is Irish and British. For their grand entrance into the reception, Amanda changed into a sari and the couple danced to a choreographed routine that combined Indian and Irish styles, backed by four professional dancers.

Amanda’s third look was created by her friend and bridesmaid, designer TARA RIVAS. She also wore a necklace by the mother of another bridesmaid, Chanelle.

The sign above the band read “Head Over Heals” which was a fun play on words referencing the couple’s last name, “Healy.”

Bringing the magical garden theme full circle, guests picked their custom shortbread cookie takeaways from a floral-covered gazebo highlighted with twinkling lights. A photo booth and a liquid nitrogen ice cream station were also enjoyed during the late-night fun.

Amanda and Devin spent their nearly three-week- long honeymoon traveling to Istanbul, Turkey, and Dubrovnik and Hvar in Croatia, before heading to Italy. The honeymoon coincided with Devin’s 30th birthday, which they spent in the Tuscan countryside on a two-seater Vespa. Talk about living the dream!
