If your destination wedding dreams have you fantasizing about tying the knot in an authentic fairytale castle, look no further than Ireland’s Luttrellstown Castle Resort. WedLuxe recently visited this magical 600-yr old historical gem-turned-luxury resort and we were instantly mesmerized.
Sir Geoffrey Luttrell bought the castle lands in 1210 when on a mission for King John but it was not until 1429 when King Henry IV gave a grant to landowners to build fortified houses – one of which is now part of the modern-day castle. The aristocratic Luttrell family held the estate until 1811. There have only been six owners of the castle – one of which was the world-famous Guinness family who played a huge part in the castle’s history, having owned the property between the 1910s and 1950s.
The castle has always been a playground for the rich and famous, including illustrious visitors such as Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco, Fred Astaire, Paul Newman, and Ronald Reagan. A fun fact for the most starry-eyed amongst us: Luttrellstown was also home to David and Victoria Beckham’s wedding in 1999!
In addition to the castle, the estate grounds are complete with a world-renowned golf course and clubhouse. Staying in the castle was an experience in itself. After all, it’s not every day that you find yourself with an entire castle to yourself! With names like “The Duchess of Cumberland” or “The Queen Victoria,” no two of the 20 luxurious suites are the same, but they all felt decidedly regal with modern furnishings and luxury amenities.
If walls could talk, this castle would have some incredible stories. As if it was offering us our own perfect closing chapter, on the day we wrapped up our photoshoot (which we’ll be showing in a future post, stay tuned!) a full rainbow magically appeared in the field behind us just moments after we snapped the final photo of the day. Luttrellstown Castle Resort was magic indeed.
A host of private on-site adventurous experiences are available to satisfy your inner nature lover, ranging from falconry to an authentic horse and hound experience. Speaking from our very own personal “WOW-inducing” experience with the horse and hounds – this is an extraordinary choice and these animals (and their expert handlers) were INCREDIBLE. “I’ve never witnessed a pack of dogs more behaved and in perfect control! It was truly a sight to behold,” says our editor-in-chief Angela Desveaux.
