Garth, a data analyst, and Karine, an entrepreneur, first met on the 51st floor of a downtown Toronto tower in the winter of 2011. For his proposal, Garth decided to take things to new heights and arranged a private helicopter to take them on a scenic tour over the Rockies. They landed on a snowy peak, overlooking the mountain tops, where Garth had arranged hot cocoa and a photographer to capture the special moment. “Glaciers, mountain-top-lakes, gorgeous sunshine—the snow sparkled almost as much as the ring! He got down on one knee… it was epic,” shares Karine.

The couple tied the knot on August 8, 2021, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Kristy and Ken Yiem of Blush Wedding Photography were on hand to capture the day. “Kristy is an incredible artist with a passion that cannot be contained,” shares Karine, “she is a true pleasure to work with!”

The University Women’s Club of Vancouver at Hycroft provided the perfect venue for the couple’s old-world European elegance theme. Heather Siu from Myrtle et Olive provided full-service planning, floral, decor, and event design services for the big day.

Take a look at Karine and Garth’s ceremony and reception in the Winter/Spring 2022 Vancouver Edition of WedLuxe Magazine.

Veronica Halim created all of the stationery for the day, combining classic calligraphy with a contemporary touch of gold and black accents.

The ceremony took place on the terrace’s Juliet balcony, overlooking the garden. Myrtle et Olive created a ceremony arch resembling a window, with double white draping pulled back by two lush floral clusters on either side. A crystal chandelier hung in the center, completing the frame. Officiant Kevan Dobsin of Designer Ceremonies led the ceremony which the couple personalized with quotes from Shakespeare and George Eliot.

“We wanted to ensure the floral palette, as well as the overall decor production, would create a visual experience for the guests as they stepped into a Euro-inspired, understated luxe and old-world romantic setting.”- Heather, MYRTLE ET OLIVE

Myrtle et Olive added to the charm with loose centerpieces comprising roses, peonies, and dahlias in varying heights, and contrasting shades of light pastels and darker dusty hues. Each one sat in a low iron vase and was finished with the same loose vine and foliage used in the sweetheart table and ceremony design.

Cake by Nicole designed a two tier wedding cake finished in white butter cream with cascading black sugar flowers and gold leaf detailing. She also provided the desserts which included calligraphed cookies and macarons, cupcakes, and champagne towers.
