Affectionately known as the “private isle,” the pristine Hawaiian island of Lanai is an ideal honeymoon and the romantic destination that offers visitors the rare experience of untouched Hawaii. With no stoplights, fast-food, chain stores, or malls—luxury tourism reigns on this secluded island. Acres of unspoiled beauty and little to no crowds make it feel like a world away, yet it’s only nine miles and a short ferry or helicopter ride away from Maui. Our Editor-in-Chief recently spent a few nights at the opulent-yet-relaxed Four Seasons Resort Lanai and says it’s “honeymoon-approved.”
A visit to the AAA Five Diamond Four Seasons Resort Lanai is all about discovering true Hawaiian spirit from the moment you arrive. Before you even check-in, you’re presented with a fresh lei and a refreshing and regionally-inspired welcome drink. Your first sip of paradise is made with pineapple, lime, and kiwi juices, a slice of jalapeno and rimmed with Ling Hing Mui powder derived from dried salty plums, which Chinese immigrants brought to Hawaii. Once you DO check-in, you’ll discover your suite (whatever the room category!) is an incredibly well-appointed, ample, uber-luxurious, and contemporary Zen-inspired space.
Enjoy the ultimate day of relaxation courtesy of the honeymoon-approved adults-only section of the hotel’s pool area where waterfalls and lava rock grottos echo Lanai’s dramatic cliffs. We LOVE the handy Do Not Disturb markers. Simply flip the stones over when you are ready to order light refreshments or book dinner later that evening. From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, pool attendants regularly stop by to offer treats such as agave lemonade, frozen grapes or pineapple, fruit or coffee smoothies, magazines, complimentary personal-size sunscreen, and water coolers to enhance your day in paradise. Be sure to look out for the legendary Dr. Shades who provides the utmost in poolside service. The in-house sunglass doctor will clean, repair, and heal any sunglass wounds. From Ray-Ban to Chanel, the doctor has seen it all and has a remedy. While Dr. Shades may not have a medical license per se, he has the expertise to keep those baby blues protected from the glistening Hawaii sun. The doctor’s urgent sunglass care allows guests to not miss a Lanai moment, such as dolphin dancing in the bay, due to a smudge or scratch.
