In an homage to Art Deco, this styled shoot features a sleek gold and black colour palette in the fittingly urban setting of the Thompson Toronto. The graphic, black and white backdrop serves as the ideal complement to the yellow velvet chairs and the metallic decor accents. The geometric ornaments and the vibrant yellow and white floral arrangements complete the contemporary and upscale aesthetic. Both the stationery and cake immediately captured our attention, with each integrating edgy, 3D shapes into the designs while still maintaining an elevated and sophisticated feel.

Karolyn and David were vacationing at a vineyard in Sonoma, CA with family and friends when David proposed. They were sipping champagne in the sunshine and basking in the beauty of the landscape when he pulled her away from the group and asked her to marry him. “It was a perfect way to end a fabulous long weekend!” recalls Karolyn.

On November 19, 2011 they were married in Toronto, Ontario and enjoyed a beautiful reception at the Thompson Hotel Toronto.

(WedLuxe) How would you describe your wedding day?

(Karolyn) “Perfect. It was everything I wanted and more!”

(WedLuxe) What was your favourite design detail?

(Karolyn) “The flowers. Amber Richman of Cool, Green & Shady did stunning work – the ambiance created by her work was better than I had imagined.”

(WedLuxe) How did you personalize your wedding day?

(Karolyn) “We had personalized table numbers for seating – each table had a different number that signified something special for us. For example, there was the table 707 that represented the area code of the vineyard where he proposed, and table 11 for the number of countries we’ve travelled to together.”

(WedLuxe) What is the most important info you think readers should know about your wedding day?

(Karolyn) “I was surrounded by the most amazing people – family, friends and vendors – and it made the day alI I had imagined and more; a perfect day. I tried to relax and enjoy every moment and most importantly go with the flow and not stress about the details.”

(WedLuxe) Who was your favourite wedding vendor and why?

(Karolyn) “Verve Photo Co. & Cool, Green & Shady. Krista & Melanie of Verve are amazing to work with. They instantly relax you and make you feel comfortable, allowing you to focus on the fun of it all, as opposed to being aware of all the photos being snapped of you. Their work is fresh and creative, and absolutely spectacular. I couldn’t be happier with the photos they did for us – a great mix of modern and artistic, and classic and elegant. Amber of Cool, Green & Shady is a gem. She is so great to work with and her work is stunning. She goes above and beyond, which I think is a true reflection of her personality and big heart.”

Karolyn’s bouquet was an airy arrangement of white roses, white peonies, white orchids, white calla lillies & green anenomes. As a fun twist, each of the bridesmaids carried a bouquet comprised of one of the flowers used in the bride’s bouquet.

Since the ceremony was held at 5:30pm on the rooftop of The Thompson Hotel, not much decor was required – the city skyline and lights provided the perfect backdrop!

The interior lights were dimmed and candles were placed throughout for a warm and romantic atmosphere.

“From start to finish it truly was one of the best days of my life,” remembers Karolyn.
