Jennifer & Matthew true love. true luxury.
Jennifer and Matthew (Matt) first met in May of 2006 while interning together during University. After three years of dating, Matt planned a romantic proposal at the couple’s condo in downtown Toronto. Jennifer arrived home from work to a candlelit pathway of roses with Matt standing in a suit at the end of the path. Along the path, Matt had placed a trail of love notes each expressing why he wanted Jennifer to be his wife. When Jennifer reached the end of the pathway, he bent down on one knee and proposed.
The couple were married at the LIBERTY GRAND ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX on July 6, 2013. Cynthia Martyn of CYNTHIA MARTYN FINE EVENTS was commissioned to provide full-service planning and design for a celebration that Jennifer and Matt requested to exude “1930s vintage-glamour.” They also wanted the entire day to pay tribute to both of their families. “As much as a marriage is a celebration of two people getting married, it is also a celebration of two families coming together,” notes Jennifer.
FIT AND FLARE
Jennifer wore a gown by Lazaro from DINA ALONZI BRIDAL. She accessorized the gown with a classic cathedral length veil (for the ceremony) and a sparkling headpiece by Maria Elena Headpieces & Accessories from Dina Alonzi Bridal (at the reception). Jennifer’s bow pumps in ivory by Valentino were purchased from DAVIDS FOOTWEAR. The bride’s engagement ring and wedding band were from GEM BIJOU, and she also wore an antique gold ring from her grandmother. Rose Corbo of JACKIE GIDEON BEAUTY styled the bride’s hair with makeup by MAKEUP WORX. Jennifer’s bridesmaids wore dresses in different colours to suit their skin tones that were made by designer Sue Wong from UNIQUE VINTAGE. The groom wore a Coppley tuxedo from FREEMAN FORMALWEAR.
Tamara Mutter-Slagter and Kevin Slagter of FUSCIA DESIGNS provided floral design services for the event.
SETTING THE TONE
Custom 1930s-inspired invitations and day-of stationery was created by MAEMAE PAPERIE. Barbara Kua of BARBARA KUA CALLIGRAPHY addressed the invitations for an elegant finishing touch.
The ceremony was held in the courtyard of the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex. Officiant Sarah Bunnett-Gibson performed the ceremony and the couple recited customized vows.
The outdoor aisle was lined with small bouquets fastened to white Chiavari chairs and wrapped with ivory ribbon to coordinate with the bridesmaids dresses. Two large floral arrangements by Fuscia Designs flanked the altar.
A string quartet from the Alexsandre Ensemble played throughout the ceremony further adding to the romantic feel of the event.
After the ceremony, the couple were transported to their reception in a 1954 Bentley limo from A ROLLS CHOICE LIVERY.
Three blush wall panels with a collection of vintage plates from Cynthia Martyn Fine Events were used to create a dramatic backdrop for Jennifer and Matthew’s sweetheart dining table. The table was adorned with an array of low and full mixed bloom arrangements by Fuscia Designs in crystal and Mercury glass compotes.
The ceremony was followed by a reception in the Artifacts Room at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex. Cynthia Martyn Fine Events and Fuscia Designs worked together to create a glamorous space with charming old-fashioned details.
Guests were seated at round dining tables with either tall or low floral centrepieces displayed in cut-glass vintage stands. Table linens were provided by HAVE A SEAT INC.
A whimsical exhibit of vintage doors was displayed in the cocktail reception area and was used to display framed family photos and guest’s table assignments.
“The family photos were very special to me, since I felt that we honoured so many family members that were not able to celebrate with us on the wedding day,” shares Jennifer. White birdcages with small posies of roses, peonies and hydrangeas were set in Mercury compotes, placed on cocktail cruiser tables in the area. Tables were also topped with custom signs that displayed the couple’s two signature drinks, Jennifer’s “Forchetti Fizz” and Matthew’s “Russell Royale.”
The Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex catered a delicious meal that included a scrumptious tiramisu served in a chocolate cup for dessert.
Vintage video footage of the bride’s parents wedding was shown during the dinner. “It was so amazing to be celebrating my wedding day and watching my mother walking down the aisle thirty-nine years ago,” recalls Jennifer.
CAKE AND ROSES
Jennifer and Matt’s wedding cake from THE WEDDING CAKE SHOPPE featured tiers of unfrosted cake cushioned with hundreds of real roses in shades of peach and pink. “The real roses gave off the most delicious scent next to the cake,” shares the bride.
The Wedding Cake Shoppe also created cupcake wedding favors which were given to guests at the end of the night.
A bongo player from BB BLANC entertained guests during the reception and everyone danced the night away to music by DJ Michael Coombs of MICHAEL COOMBS ENTERTAINMENT.
The couple enjoyed a ten day honeymoon in French Polynesia where they travelled to the heart-shaped island of Moorea.
