Ashleigh & Steve TRUE LOVE. TRUE LUXURY.

Ashleigh Proudfoot and Steve Douglas first met at KI (a fine-dining Sushi and Sake restaurant located in downtown Toronto). As Steve explains, “It happened when we least expected it and weren’t really looking. I saw her from afar and absolutely knew I had to talk to her.”

The couple were engaged on a yacht off a secluded beach near the island of Barbuda. “Steve’s gift to me for Christmas 2010 was a surprise trip aboard the yacht ‘Sweet Escape’ for a week to Saint Barts. It was sunset, horses were galloping along the beach, and the crew delivered a bottle of Cristal to the top deck just as I said ‘yes.’ It was a moment we’ll cherish forever,” remembers Ashleigh.

Their July 21, 2012 wedding took place in the couple’s favourite place in the world—Port Carling, in the Muskoka area of Ontario.

For the wedding and reception, the couple wanted to utilize the natural setting of the Muskoka region, yet celebrate their day in an elegant and opulent environment.

On the morning of the wedding, Ashleigh got ready at the couple’s beautiful lakeside cottage. Eduardo Mella of JUDY INC. provided hair and makeup styling. Her couture gown, purchased from INES DI SANTO, featured a drop-waist bodice covered in crystal with a matching custom veil. A pair of chandelier diamond earrings from TIFFANY & CO., a wedding present from Steve, completed the look.

The bridesmaids (Steve’s daughters and Ashleigh’s best friends) wore custom-silk and chiffon floor-length gowns made by Shahani Couture, and designed by the bride. Steve wore a Zegna suit from HARRY ROSEN.

Event Planner Anne Anderson of ANNE ANDERSON EVENTS was commissioned by the couple to provide full-service design and planning for their grand celebration at theLAKE JOSEPH CLUB in Port Carling. “Anne was the perfect balance of sensitivity to our needs and moods, coupled with efficiency and execution. She was our biggest supporter and left no detail to chance,” says Ashleigh of her experience working with Anne.

The ceremony, held on the lawns overlooking Lake Joseph, featured giant crystal chandeliers swaying in the trees overhead and groupings of white antique pedestals and urns with lush flowers flowing from one urn to another, lining the entire aisle. A French baroque table with cascading florals and a Louis chair were used for the signing table. A special seat, in the first row of the ceremony, was reserved with a delicate posie, placed in honour of Ashleigh’s late mother.

Frank Rea of FORGET ME NOT FLOWERS provided the jaw-dropping flowers for the entire day, including Ashleigh’s fragrant bridal bouquet of gardenias. It was wrapped in the same crystal and embroidered fabric as her gown. A locket containing a photo of Ashleigh’s mother was tied to the bouquet. She had sadly passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

After the ceremony, an opulent cocktail reception followed. There were several unique areas designed for guests to mingle and relax.

Anne Anderson was not only the planner, but the lead designer for the event. For each area of the wedding, she produced design boards complete with 3D floor plans for Ashleigh and Steve to envision and approve, in advance of the wedding. She and florist Frank Rea of FORGET ME NOT FLOWERS collaborated closely together to create the outstanding design and floral scope of the day.

A martini tent, complete with flair bartenders from BARTENDER ONE, entertained guests and served five custom cocktails (the drinks were listed in Waterford crystal frames). The creatively named cocktails included Sunset Nights, Lychee Love, Purple Satin, Summers in Muskoka, and White Beauty. A 15-foot custom bar was designed by Anne Anderson with custom silk screening of the couple’s monogram. Four white crystal pendants hung from the tent ceiling. After dinner, the tent became the “Coffee Bar,” serving specialty coffees and gourmet teas.

There was also a collection of cabanas with white leather bornes where guests could enjoy magnificent views of the lake and gardens.

Custom silk pillows with the couple’s monogram silk-screened in silver, were placed on each side of the bornes.

Three-tiered “floral chandeliers” were suspended from the centre of each cabana, featuring white dendrobium and cymbidium orchids, with crystal prisms attached to the ends of the orchid strands.

Guests were greeted by white-gloved waiters offering mocktails served in etched champagne glasses on antique silver trays.

Ashleigh and Steve’s three-year-old son was the ring bearer and wore a custom replica of Steve’s tuxedo.

A 25-foot custom bar was designed for the event by Anne Anderson Events with a backdrop of the couple’s monogram on custom wallpaper.

White baroque mirrors hung behind the bar, reflecting the crystal chandeliers. The tent also featured French-style custom daybeds. Arrangements of roses, gardenias and hydrangeas in crystal bowls were displayed on the various French baroque coffee tables, cruiser and communal tables from JOE’S PROP HOUSE. Silver placecard “frames” were placed around a seven-foot floral display of roses, hydrangeas and orchids, with Swarovski crystal strands falling from one tier to the next. The floral display was placed on custom linen with rosette detailing.

Both men and ladies enjoyed the enclave of a black and white themed “man cave.” It featured a background designed by PALETTERA CUSTOM CORRESPONDENCES, inspired by the design of the invites. Two black crystal pendants and white floral arrangements were reflected in the two large white French baroque mirrors inside the unique area along with black Python Chairs from CONTEMPORARY FURNITURE RENTALS.

A grand dinner tent awaited the guests. The centrepiece was a six-by-five-foot high crystal chandelier hung over the center of the dance floor, accented with white and buttercream roses, orchids and hydrangeas. Guest tables sparkled with crystal charger plates featuring white silk napkins, embroidered with the couple’s monogram in silver.

Alternating heights of crystal vases lined the tables with roses, hydrangea and phalaenopsis orchids cascading from one vase to the other. Seven custom-made mirrors stood over 11-feet tall, and were placed behind the head table and family tables. In front of each mirror hung a four-foot wide crystal chandelier. French baroque tables displayed more gorgeous white floral placed in white urns at varying heights. The effect was incredibly dramatic and breathtaking.

Additional rentals from: EVENTURE for draping, ADVANCED TENT RENTAL for tenting and rigging of the custom mirrors, EXCLUSIVE AFFAIR RENTALSCHAIR-MAN MILLSVISUAL FX for AV, lighting, and staging, AROUND THE TABLE for reception table linens, ANNE ANDERSON EVENTS for design and fabrication of the square bornes, French daybeds, ottomans, mirrors and accessories such as pillows, man cave backdrop, etc.

CAKE OPERA CO. designed a show-stopper cake featuring five-tiers of ivory and buttercream fondant with clusters of sugar garden roses (each with a crystal center) cascading down the tiers. A silver French baroque “frame” with crystal beads and tiny rhinestone brooches was embedded within the design to accentuate a sugar replica of the monogram. The cake also featured baroque “feet” that mimicked the design of the custom French baroque mirrors.

Cake Opera Co. also provided the yummy treats for a late-night sweet table. The only thing Ashleigh and Steve would have done differently? Remember to serve the wedding cake to their guests! (They forgot!).

One of the most emotional moments of the evening was when Ashleigh took to the dance floor with her Dad. Together, they danced to “It’s Only Love” in honour of her mother.

The catering provided by LAKE JOSEPH CLUB was second-to-none. Highlights of the five-course dinner included a watermelon salad, summer pea soup, lemon sorbet (from Muskoka’s own BELLY ICE CREAM COMPANY), Canadian beef tenderloin, roasted sea bass, and a dessert quartet of creme brulee, brandy basket with white truffle cream, tiramisu and key lime cheesecake.

Two live bands performed. One for dinner—THE BRIAN ROSE BAND, and one for dancing—FAMOUS PLAYERS BAND. As the party continued on, guests could indulge in an ice cream sundae bar with more than 15 yummy condiments. The party was so fun, the Famous Players Band played three encores!

CLOUD NINE CREATIVE filmed the entire event in HD video and are putting together the final touches on a full-length feature wedding film, commissioned by Ashleigh and Steve.
