One (very fun!) night in July of 2012, Aida and Alec each found themselves in Las Vegas, Nevada. Vancouverite Aida was there with a few girlfriends from high school. Alec, a Brit, was visiting on a “lads” holiday with a group of his university mates. Their paths crossed on the dance floor when they first caught each other’s eyes and shared a flirty smile. Aida asked Alec to dance, leading to the pair dancing together into the early morning hours!
“Soon, the day came when we had to go our separate ways, back to our ‘normal’ lives, but nothing felt normal without being beside one another,” shares Aida. What happened in Vegas did not stay in Vegas as the couple spent a year and a half in a long-distance relationship, waking up at dawn and excusing themselves from family dinners to call one another. Eventually, Alec bought a one-way ticket from England to join Aida in Vancouver so that they could begin the next chapter of their lives together.
To symbolize his move “across the pond,” Alec decided to propose to Aida on a boat on the Burrard Inlet. On the day of the proposal, the couple set sail into the open waters of Coal Harbour to celebrate seven years together. As the sun set, Alec asked for Aida’s hand in marriage. She gasped, laughed, cried, and said, “Yes!”
The couple tied the knot in the South of France on May 3, 2022. Aida had always wanted to be married in a castle, so the couple decided on Château de Robernier as the perfect location for their three-day fairytale wedding celebration.
For the wedding ceremony, Aida wore a Galia Lahav gown, with a Kashtiaray diamond necklace gifted to her by her sister. She also wore a Bvlgari ring gifted by Alec on the wedding day.
The intimate wedding ceremony was held in the garden with a stunning view of the French countryside. A singer and guitarist duo performed one of the couple’s favorite songs live as the wedding party walked down the aisle.
Alec’s nephew, the ring bearer, carried a custom ring box inscribed with the couple’s initials and the wedding date.
One of Alec’s oldest friends officiated the ceremony, while the couple exchanged personal vows they had each written. Alec delivered a long, complex paragraph of heartfelt promises in Farsi, Aida’s first language. The time he had spent learning and practicing the paragraph meant the world to his bride.
The reception was held in the courtyard of Château de Robernier. The space was enclosed with a beautiful twinkle light canopy and chandeliers that added to the decor theme of “modern Marie Antoinette.” No detail was overlooked from the gold-rimmed stemware to the silk ribbon used to tie the napkins.
Catering for the three-day event included both welcome and post-wedding day pool party barbecues and the wedding dinner, which featured lobster tartelettes, truffled filet de boeuf, and rocher chocolate cake.
Locally sourced lavender honey and miniature wooden honeycomb sticks were given as favors to match the Provence wedding vibe. Custom labels were applied with the couple’s monogram.
