Looking for your dream venue with an easily accessible location? Look no further than the Fairmont Royal York! Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, Ontario, the venue just celebrated its 90th birthday. In the midst of their new renovations, we sat down with the Fairmont Royal York to get all the details.
Can you tell us a bit about the most memorable weddings you have ever hosted?
We have hosted countless special and unique weddings, so it is tough to narrow it down! We did host a wedding recently that was planned by Melissa Baum Events that offered a few WOW factors throughout the evening. For the ceremony, pink confetti cannons were set off during the couple’s first kiss. They created and built a massive custom dance floor filled with flowers that was such a unique centrepiece for the room. To top it off, they produced an infinity room as an enhanced photo booth experience for guests to enjoy as well.Ā
Tell us about wedding trends in your line of work. What trends have been significant in 2019? What trends are you predicting will be significant for weddings in 2020?
There has been a growing focus on the “getting ready experience” for bridal parties and how to make it personalized. We are also finding increased interest in where our food comes from, whether or not it is sustainable and ways to be more eco-friendly. From a dĆ©cor perspective, we are noticing that our couples have been playing with textures and colours in their tablescapes. This trend enables a couple to play around with our classic and refreshed space to make it authentically theirs.
When speaking with our 2020 couples, we have certainly received an enhanced focus on the customization of their food and beverage offerings. We are frequently asked about how to infuse cultural influences into the menu throughout the evening and how we can present these dishes or beverages in creative ways. Lighting and production is a notable mention as a lot of couples are looking for ways to take their vision to a level above the standard linen and floral arrangements.Ā
What is Fairmont Royal York currently working on, and what’s next?
We are very excited about the highly anticipated makeover of the Imperial Room as it is the last of our four ballrooms to receive a refresh early in the New Year. This soft renovation will include a transformative design, reflected in new carpeting, drapery and fresh paint. While giving a stunning new look to one of our most famed spaces, the historical features of the room will still be preserved, such as the chandeliers, the stoic marble pillars and its iconic stage.Ā
