True Love, True Luxury

True Love, True Luxury: Shardae & Dan

A Modern Urban Wedding
Shardae and Dan were married on September 4, 2011 at the Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver.
Shardae wore a Lazaro gown from Bisou Bridal. “I first saw the gown while watching the
Lazaro runway show online. It incorporated everything I wanted in a dress.
It was romantic, sexy, and dramatic,” she recalls.

The bridesmaids wore silk-chiffon floor-length black dresses in different styles from Amsale.

Event Planner Tara Thorp of Forever True Wedding Planning and Design
provided full-service event planning and design services. “We wanted the feeling to be elegant,
classy and modern with touches of a vintage feel. We also wanted our guests to feel warm and
welcomed at a modern and trendy downtown urban wedding, reflecting our own lifestyle,” says Shardae.

All of their wedding day stationery was created by Michelle Mark and Tara Thorp through the stationery
division of Forever True Wedding Planning and Design.

“Tara designed all of our stationery by picking all the colors and styles of the paper. We wanted the look of the stationery to reflect our overall vision. Using different textures and colours, it all came together and looked amazing.
It’s important that from the first invite everything works together. Once we put all of that together, Michelle Mark, Tara’s designer, did all the graphic work and assembled everything. In the end there were invites, RSVPs, escort-cards, menus, programs, and favor boxes. It looked amazing!” says Shardae.

Shardae’s stilettos by Valentino inspired the black lace theme which was used in the wedding day decor.
For dancing, Shardae changed into a pair of ballet-pink slippers by Tom’s.

“I think the biggest splurge during the planning process was both my dress and my shoes. I really love fashion and shoes, so for me, having a great pair of heels under a stunning dress was an absolute necessity.”

The ceremony took place in the Le Versailles Ballroom and featured a sheer white chuppah with black fabric accent panels. Guests were seated on black Louis Ghost chairs. The aisle was lined with white rose petals and black candles, and shapely black and white rose spheres.
“The overall look was very architectural, fashion-forward and dramatic,” says Shardae.

Together, florist Evan Orion of Flowerz & Tara Thorp (from Forever True Wedding Planning and Design) designed the reception decor. The ballroom was transformed with a contemporary combination of silver and black.
The tables were draped with dark silver linen and paired with sleek black Louis Ghost chairs. An eclectic collection of lime green and white floral arrangements, in an assortment of vessels, created a different design for each table.
From black glass to lace trims, from brushed aluminum to black ceramic, the different textures and shapes
made the tables a stunning design feature. “Evan and Tara worked for months putting all the details together
so that everywhere you looked there was something different to look at. From the black glass and black candles,
to the small touches of lace on the vases, it looked stunning!” recalls Shardae.

The couple were led into the reception by a bagpiper (a close family friend of the bride). Incorporating this Scottish element was a nod to the bride’s family heritage and also reflected a point of pride for the family,
as Shardae was once part of a world championship-winning juvenile pipe band.

During the reception, guests enjoyed a photobooth complete with costumes and props. A late-night poutine bar was also served! “Both Dan and I really enjoy poutine after a night out on the town, and it also brings him back to his days spent at university in Montreal,” reflects Shardae.

As of press time, the couple had not embarked on a honeymoon but they do plan
on spending three weeks travelling around Europe.

“My favourite design detail was the sweetheart table. We really wanted to set our table apart from the other guest tables. The way the table looked under the chuppah, surrounded by dramatic vases with fluffy hydrangeas, romantic candles and lighting, and scattered rose petals, really took my breath away,” recalls Shardae.

“This whole wedding was really an extension of our style and love for each other.”
