Heidi and Peter had been together for almost nine years when on one icy winter night, Peter proposed in a hotel room in Niagara Falls. Heidi thought there would be no way he could ever surprise her when it was time for him to pop the question since she knew him so well! He caught her off guard after she had gotten ready for bed. “I had no make-up on and I was in my PJs when Peter knelt down on one knee with ring in hand.” Heidi never imagined Niagara Falls would be the place where he would propose because it was a frequent getaway for the pair. But this was definitely a surprise, and she was caught completely off guard!
(WedLuxe): How would you describe your wedding day?
(Heidi): “Our wedding day was so magical. It was spiritual, romantic and so much fun! We both come from Greek backgrounds so we have quite large families, and made sure the people we invited currently play a role in our lives. We ended up having around 470 guests attend. I felt so happy to be surrounded by so many wonderful people.”
What was your favourite design detail?
“Our favourite design detail must have been the choice of using square tables instead of the typical round tables usually found in banquet halls. Since we had a large number of guests attending the wedding we couldn’t pick a more unique venue, so we tried to change things up a bit for ourselves and our guests. People seemed to love the tables and it gave us much more room to work with in the center of the tables for decor.”
How did you personalize your wedding day?
“My father past away a little over five years ago so it was important for me to make him a part of this day. During our ceremony I had lit a candle in the front of the church in his honour, that was burning throughout the entire ceremony. It was a private detail that meant a lot to me, and was a reminder that he was there in spirit.”
Who was your favourite wedding vendor and why?
“Our favourite wedding vendor was Forget Me Not Flowers. Frank and Danelle were a pleasure to work with. They truly didn’t rest until they knew we were 200% satisfied with with the flower arrangements and the decor. They were very patient, polite and genuinely great people!” recalls Heidi.
Cake Opera Co. created a beautiful 3ft tall, seven-tier cake covered in white fondant. An assortment of cast sugar gems, glass-faceted beads, and pearlized fondant tiles cascaded down the sides. It was topped with two intertwining laurel wreaths (hand-sculpted and painted in platinum with one featuring a loosely tied ribbon).
