True Love, True Luxury: Cindy and Patrick

Cindy and Patrick met through Cindy’s close friend (and bridesmaid), Sue. “He was the only one from her Queen’s University group of friends I hadn’t met yet. She talked about how amazing he was; so much so that I fell in love with him even before I had met him!” remembers Cindy. The two finally met and the rest is history.

The couple was married on September 5, 2010. Vancouver was a perfect location choice since they had both grown up in the city and it was a mid-point location for their guests (and wedding party) who were coming from all over the globe.

Cindy wore two gowns both custom made for her by Reva Mivasagar. She wore vintage diamond earrings and a necklace; both passed down from her mom. For the tea ceremony, Cindy changed into her custom-made Chinese Cheongsham gown. Cindy’s bridesmaids wore custom heather grey gowns that she designed and had made in Hong Kong. They all carried bright yellow bouquets (the signature wedding colour) created by Darlene Meyers-Jackson of Bouquets Floral.

Together Colin Upright of Upright Decor and Darlene of Bouquets Floral created the modern reception decor at the Fairmont Pacific Rim using all locally grown floral. After the wedding, all the florals were donated to Bamfield Pavilion at Vancouver General Hospital.

Upright Decor draped the tables in a contemporary graphic linen. Every table was identified with a fun photo. “Pat and I had photos of us taken around Vancouver holding or pointing to different numbers. We used these photos as table number signs. Each table had a different photo of us,”-Cindy

Cindy surprised Patrick with a groom’s cake from Cake Tease that looked like a poutine from the groom’s favourite restaurant in his Queen’s University days. The ‘poutine’ itself was a creamy caramel cake, with a peanut butter buttercream icing as the ‘gravy’.

At the entrance to their reception stood a gorgeous painting of a bonsai tree commissioned by Cindy from her dad—an architect, talented artist, and a bonsai hobbyist. A sign asked guests to “please ‘leaf’ a thumbprint” by placing their finger in green stamp pads that sat next to the painting. The guests then wrote their names next to their thumbprints. The beautiful oil painting in ornate gold frame now sits in the couple’s living room as a wonderful memory.
