SPRING 2015 BACKSTAGE VIA THE LIGHT OF NOW

FALL 2012 COUTURE VIA STYLE.COM

As longtime fans of Elie Saab, we always look forward to his bi-annual couture collections. We love the design house's blog, The Light of Now, which offers a backstage glimpse into Saab's design process and the hours of work that go into each collection's closing bridal gown. Here, we've included some of our favourite ethereal images from the site, as well as some of the finale bridal gowns from years past.

We’re beyond excited to share Chanel & Chris’ beautiful Banff wedding with you that’s featured in the Summer/Fall 2015 issue of WedLuxe Magazine on newsstands today! The couple were married  in the spring of 2014 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Canada's "Castle in the Rockies." Derek MacDonald from Boom Goes The Drum provided event design and full-service planning for the elegant yet modern, fairytale-like celebration.

Chanel wore an exquisite Elie Saab haute couture gown purchased in Paris. Calgary-based fashion retailer Courtney Kos of Ette has an existing relationship with the acclaimed fashion house and assisted with the process. The soft peach-coloured ball gown featured sheer detailing on the arms and was embellished with sequins, beads, and floral appliqués. The couture creation left our team in total awe! Her lace pumps and clutch were also custom-designed by Elie Saab, and Designing on the Edge created her composite flower bouquet made with over twenty ivory vendela roses.

One of our favourite details of the celebration was the playful set of inflatable swan that were included in the wedding party photos—from Taylor Swift to Khloe Kardashian, the swan floats are currently having a major moment on Instagram! Chanel mentioned to photographer Phil Crozier of Photophilcro that she always dreamed of having swans at her wedding as a little girl—an almost impossible task at a spring wedding hosted in Alberta. As a surprise to the bride, Phil brought the blow-up swans as a fun, editorial twist on her childhood dream.

You can learn more about Chanel and Chris’ day in our current issue, the ultra-luxe wedding is featured in both the Eastern and Western Canada editions.

The gorgeous styled shoot from CountDown Events Planning & Design was inspired by the Lunar New Year and trends in the high fashion Chinese wedding market. “As we enter the ‘year of the sheep’ we are looking at mixing metallics, textures, and patterns to create visual interest,” says planner/designer Soha Lavin. “This year is all about personalization and details!”

We're totally smitten with the tablescape design as well as the Elie Saab gown from Cachè Couture Atelier and éclairs from Soirette that include a touch of gold as a nod to tradition. Denise Lin Photography captured all of the Pinterest-worthy details.

From feathered frocks to floral embellishments, we've rounded up the top trends from Paris Haute Couture Week!

FEATHERS

It seemed as though all the Couture shows were filled with beautiful plumage this season. We guess when it comes to designers, birds of a feather really do flock together! Whether featured in a flirty skirt or in a statement making clutch, we adore this trend.

COBALT BLUE

As we mentioned in December, this bold shade of sapphire blue is right on trend - and clearly the bright hue isn't going away anytime soon! We loved Atelier Versace's gowns in the primary colour with matching smokey eyes created by makeup artist Pat McGrath.

"LE SMOKING" NOVEAU

Le Smoking, also known as The Tuxedo, was popularized for women by Yves Saint Laurent in 1966. Throughout the years, it has been reincarnated in many variations, from Bianca Jagger's iconic white version for her '71 nuptials to Mick, to Emma Stone's tuxedo-inspired Dior Couture gown worn to this year's SAG Awards. The New Tuxedo has many forms and is a great alternative for non-traditional brides.

CAPES

Capes are yet another trend that we have been loving as of late! Solange's influence has clearly made its way to the realm of Haute Couture, with numerous caped options (from classically feminine versions by Georges Hobeika to modern muumuus by Stephane Rolland) on the runway this SS2015 season.

BEJEWELLED DETAILS

Dresses, clutches and even boots were adorned with beautiful jewels and crystals this season and these eye-catching looks were some of our favourites. There's nothing we love more than "bling" done in a fashion-forward way.

FLORALS

Considering that our current issue is "The Floral Issue", you can probably guess which trend we are most excited about. Flowers were all over this season, featured front and centre in Chanel's stunning show, which transformed the Grand Palais into a giant greenhouse, as well as woven into the hair of the models at Valentino's show.

CUTOUTS

Cutouts were featured across the board, from big name labels like Dior and Atelier Versace to up-and-coming designers like Ulyana Sergeenko and Alexandre Vauthier. We love this sexy way of showing skin in a tasteful way.

SHEER FABRIC

The final trend we noticed everywhere was sheer fabric. Some designers like Valentino used lightweight sheer chiffon from head to toe, while others incorporated it in sexy side panels. We look forward to seeing this trend interpreted in bridal fashion in the coming months.
